A major earthquake has hit Afghanistan, northern Pakistan and parts of India, with reports that more than 300 have been killed. The magnitude 7.5 quake was centred in the province of Badakhshan in the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan’s far north, and occurred at a depth of 130 miles (210km). More than two minutes of sustained tremors were felt in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad. The quake also hit the cities of Lahore, Faisalabad and the mountainous region of Chitral.
The death toll that is already over 300 but the number of injured and homeless is in the thousands. Most affected areas of Pakistan are Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa and Gilgit; winter is approaching so we need to be there to give them relief. We are already working there, but the scale of devastation is too vast that we need your support to provide them the basic necessities of life i.e. food, warm clothing, shelter and help to treat the injured.
A young 10 years old girl Nabila said, “Me and my sister were in school and suddenly our caretaker was shouting outside the building, “Come out every one, there is earthquake”. “We ran out and found numbers of destroyed building surrounded all over the area... like many other children my younger sister Sakina was started crying.. I want to go home Nabila!!! I was so upset and consoling her. Then we found few people wearing shirt with the logo Al Mustafa Welfare Trust helping many people.
Alhumdulillah, we are grateful to all team members of Al Mustafa Welfare Trust those are helping me and all other people who had lost their houses by providing us food, shelter and warm clothing”, said Nabila.
