Mohammad Sultan spent much of his life in the service of others.

Before he had to retire, he used to work as a security guard at a local hospital in Samahni, Kashmir. When his poor health made it impossible for him to do his job, he lost it. But he couldn’t sit idle. Mohammad Sultan spent his days helping the needy in his community with their medical needs. When offered money for his help, he always refused it, believing that Allah (swt) would reward him for his efforts

Mohammad Sultan’s love of supporting and caring for others was insatiable. The father of eight already had the burden of a large family to care for. His low wage job was only enough to provide the most basic needs. It was no surprise then that none of his children were able to get an education. Instead they too joined the workforce early, taking on labour work to support the family. Eventually they all moved out and built their own families, but they never stopped caring for their parents.

It was one of his sons that brought Mohammad Sultan into Al Mustafa Trust’s (AMWT) eye-care camp earlier this year. At age 71, he’d reached that point where his eyesight began to hinder his ability to move independently. But unable to afford consulting a proper eye doctor, he had no idea what the problem was. Only when the doctors diagnosed him with a cataract in his left eye, did Mohammad and his son realise.

AMWT provided Mohammad Sultan with a free operation and medication. He and his son couldn’t be more thankful, but they also knew that it was a blessing from Allah (swt). For many years, Mohammad Sultan helped others in the service of Allah (swt), and for His sake alone. Now in his time of need, Allah (swt) had sent others to help him.

At AMWT, we believe that it is Allah (swt) who provides the aid, while we are only the means by which He works. We thank Him for deeming us worthy of this honour, and we thank you for joining us in this cause. May Allah (swt) bless you, and increase you in generosity and good works. May He aid you also in your time of need.
